That's right.. they closed down SETI. Well.. technically it's still running. But you will have to use their new program BOINC to carry on with the rest. For the existing users, the work units will be frozen as of what they had on December 15th. Even though the backend servers are working properly, the database merge will take a while it seems.
Oh well.. we'll just have to wait and see what happens. If not for trying to find extra terrestrial life, let's wish the project the best for providing us with bragging rights about our processors and certificates to help us with that process. Long live SETI!

I heard of a new tool called Dealio that searches the internet through popular electronic sites and gives you a list of deals by price. It searches deep into these sites and pulls up the best deals while using your zip/postal code to estimate the tax and shipping charges you would have to pay. It also has the ability to show current auctions regarding this item.
Sounds like a nifty tool to try. There are couple of drawbacks though.
- It comes as a browser plugin for IE only.
- Only works with the "best players" in the market. But new companies are added frequently.
- Shows the deals as a popup, which thanks to annoying popup ads on the internet, had caused some people to grind their teeth at the mere sight of it.
Other than that, I think it could be very useful when it comes to saving a couple of bucks (sometimes as much as $60 from what I've heard about this tool). I haven't tested this myself. If you have, feel free to post a comment here and let the rest know what you think about it.
